On Monday, January 8 in Hayward Hall of Justice, I will ask for the remaining part of my compensation for teaching courses on Writing about Politics from various political perspectives, rather than just from the viewpoint of the Left. The Chancellor, Ralph Hexter, ordered my department to withhold compensation, using bureaucratic technicalities. The real reason: I had stood up and demanded that our Republican students have as much of a chance to speak their conscience as anybody else.
If you believe in free speech, as I do, and want to support efforts to counter the antipathy of the U.C. administration to diverse political perspectives, please show up to support me. I am litigating on behalf of the taxpayers of California, Democrats and Republicans, who deserve a university system that represents all of us.
